My Self Portraits

Conceptual

For this assignment I sort of took the idea of self-portrait literally. All of

these photos were taken specifically for this assignment. I come from

a photography and cinematography background so the story that I

was attempting to tell was sort of a cartoon world bleeding into reality.

Thus many of my cartoon images were taken from sketchbooks, or the Internet.

I had this concept before taking many of these photos so the interaction

between the cartoon images and myself was intentional. They appear

to exist in this world but I am not, personally, interacting with these

cartoon images until the last photo, with mobster monkey and myself.

The main concept was to incorporate a cartoon feeling into all the photos

but as I worked on this concept the cartoons became somewhat redundant.

I than began exploring differing ways of displaying reality and trying

to make the reality, depicted in these photos, as non-realistic as possible.

The colors used were my attempt to create a world of both fantasy

and reality and hopefully everyone enjoys them as much as I did making them.

Technical

All of these photos were taken with the idea of distance in mind.

I tried to use the cartoons in the background attempting to display

depth in a 2-d world. The photos were an intentional way of

displaying foreground and background. I tried to place myself

as the focal point in the photo but to use the background to my advantage

in creating another world.

In my attempt to create this other world I used a lot of adjustment modes

as well as color overlay. All of the cartoon images used were their

own separate layer and I attempted to have it interact with the original

photo. I used a lot of adjustments to hue and saturation and added

tons of color to almost every photo. These photos were all shot

being slightly overexposed so when I overlaid them they added a sort

of richness to themselves. I feel that the extreme adjustments , hopefully

make the viewer not see them as a depiction of reality but as a world

that has some how blended with pop art.

For most of these images I played around with color overlay as well as adjustment layers. I added characters that I found on the internet and that I had laying around.
